Who Made Me
Who Made Me is a personal narrative that reflects on the various individuals and relationships that made an impact on my life and helped make me into who I am today. My series of work will act as a timeline to document and commemorate these memorable moments. The four stories I wish to portray are about Mrs. Murphy who was my grade one and two teacher who passed away in August, 2018, Mr. Dalton my high school drama teacher and Teacher Advisor who passed away in September, 2018, my family dogs both those who passed and those with me now, and the last piece is about a particular moment within my romantic relationship that brought me closer to my boyfriend. My thesis will consist of metal work made from precious materials such as brass, sterling silver, 14k yellow gold, gem stones and pearls. I will be fabricating most of my work to acknowledge how these individuals invested their time and labour in me. These pieces are created to commemorate and celebrate my loved ones and the relationships I built with them.
Brass Dog Treat ContainerBrass, Gun Blue Patination. Silversmithing. 2019. This dog treat container was designed to look like an urn to commemorate my previous dogs who have passed. I also wanted to make this piece functional for my current two dogs as well, which is why I made it a dog treat container. Every time I give my current dogs a treat, I'll be reminded the warm memories of my previous dogs as well. | Brass Dog Treat ContainerBrass, Gun Blue Patination. Silversmithing. 2019. Fabrication. 2019. This piece was inspired by the relationship I had with my late grade one and two teacher, Mrs. Murphy. I wanted to make something she would be proud to wear if she was here today, which is why I chose to make a broach. The form is based on glasses since Mrs. Murphy was the one who discovered that I needed glasses, she literally changed my perspective. This piece is composed of my relationship with her. |

Dalton's Door of OpportunitiesSterling Silver, 14kt Yellow Gold, Liver of Sulfur Patination. Fabrication. 2019. This pair of cufflinks was inspired by my late high school Teacher Advisor and Drama Teacher, Mr. Dalton. He guided me through high school. There's a saying for opportunities that states when a door closes, another one opens. However, Mr. Dalton gave that analogy a twist by saying we can force that door open again if we can find the key. The door is shaped like a 'D' for Dalton and opens to show his playfulness. | Dalton's Door of OpportunitiesSterling Silver, 14kt Yellow Gold, Liver of Sulfur Patination. Fabrication. 2019. This piece was inspired by the relationship I have with my boyfriend. There was a time where I felt lost and consumed by darkness. I reached out to my boyfriend. The moment he spoke, I felt my pain slowly dissipating. He was my saviour. So the earrings I made creates a chime-like sound since I find chimes to be quite calming. The amethysts represent me since it's my birthstone. This commemorates my saviour's call. |
Contained Marble StormSterling Silver, 14kt Yellow Gold, Iridescent Marbles. This piece was based on my observation of how my boyfriend reacted when I felt lost and consumed by darkness. My emotions were turbulent, yet he desperately tried to contain it. There's a saying 'I lost my marbles,' but it felt more like my boyfriend was trying to contain my marbles within a storm. The container is shaped like a tornado and holds marbles. I used dark iridescent marbles to show how there's still visible characteristics. | Anniversary Set (Ring)Sterling Silver, Fine Silver, 14kt Yellow Gold, Opal. Fabrication. 2019.
